O Programa Moeda Presidencial de 1 Dólar é parte de uma lei do Congresso, Pub.L. 109-145, 119 Stat. 2.664, promulgada 22 dezembro de 2005, que dirige o Estados Unidos produzir moedas de um dólar americano com gravuras de retratos dos Presidentes dos EUA no anverso.
De 2007 a 2011, as moedas presidenciais foram cunhadas com 1 Dólar para a circulação em grande número, resultando em um grande estoque de moedas não. Desde 2012, as novas moedas presidenciais só estão sendo cunhadas para colecionadores, a fim de reduzir o estoque
